As I have mentioned numerous times on this website, assigning a taxon to a single isolated bone, tooth, or scale is very difficult, especially since there was strong anatomical convergence among many animals.
In this catalog, I have therefore decided to use what is known as open nomenclature – a system used to express uncertainty in taxonomic identification. It is widely used by professional palaeontologists, but I believe it is equally useful in amateur collections.
