Polyacrodus sp., tooth, 9/UMK

Polyacrodus sp.

Middle Triassic, Upper Muschelkalk (Ladinian), Upper Silesia, Poland

A beautifully preserved specimen of a shark tooth crown, Polyacrodus sp., belonging to the order Hybodontiformes.

My observations indicate that the teeth of these sharks are significantly less numerous in the Ladinian sediments of Upper Silesia than those of other hybodonts. This is the only specimen in my collection so far.

Polyacrodus teeth are low and consist of a series of low cusps with a principal cusp slightly higher than the lateral cusps.

Hybodonts were both saltwater and freshwater.

SilesianTriassic is a private hobby project about fossils from the Triassic of Silesia. I try to document and interpret specimens as best as possible, but identifications are tentative and may be incorrect.
